Arrival in Anchorage

Posted on June 22, 2025June 23, 2025 by Lilith

It was in September last year when Sebi and I decided to start our next big cycling trip this year in June, and this week the time has finally come. We were both super busy until right before departure, I with work and Sebi additionally with military duties. This lead to what felt like squeezing six months of preparations into one single week. We spent two days with a part of my family in Frankfurt, where we organized a few last minute things and packed the bikes in their boxes.

On Thursday afternoon we finally went to the airport and before we really knew it, we were on the plane. We flew over Greenland and wow, the landscape was stunning! We were at an elevation of about 12.000 meters, but it felt incredibly close. The flight was very pleasant and after about ten hours we landed in Anchorage. Funnily enough, the time difference between Germany and Alaska are ten hours, so we departed at around 3 p.m. and landed at around 3 p.m.

Immigration was pleasantly uncomplicated and even our luggage arrived undamaged. For getting from the airport to our hosts place we had to split up and get two Ubers, as we just didn’t fit in one car with those two boxes. Our host welcomed us with open arms and after a short trip to the next pizza place we went straight to bed at 7 p.m. (which was about 5 a.m. for us).
